There will be a petition circulating for Lakeview Ridge residents to sign. It asks the Cleveland Board of Zoning to disallow an application for strip mining a piece of land adjacent to our community.
This is a copy of the petition. We urge all residents to sign it.
Proposed Surface Mine and Construction and Demolition Waste Landfill
Proposed Site - 4300 Bradley Road:
- Consists of 35 acres between the toxic Harshaw Chemical Co. and the Cuyahoga River.
- Is adjacent to an existing violation-closed landfill that is leaking toxins into the water and soil.
- Is adjacent to more than 200 homes on Sky Lane and Gino Lane and within one mile of 1000 homes.
Property Owner - Bradley Road, Inc.
- Has a 21 year history of code violations and owes $167,000 in delinquent property taxes on the site.
- May realize an estimated profit of $40 million over 15 years.
- Violates 14 regulations for the existing permit.
Proposed Plan for Mine and Landfill
- To remove 600,000 square yards of soil through surface mining.
- To fill the excavation with 61 million tons of construction and demolition waste. [The debris is the same material that caused illness to first responders at the World Trade Center.]
- To operate for the next 15 years, from 7:30 am to 5 pm., six days a week.
Old Brooklyn Residents
- Will be exposed to toxic air contaminants from the excavation and noise from heavy equipment.
- Can expect toxins to pollute the ground and surface water of the Cuyahoga River and Spring Rd Creek.
- Can expect their horne values to decrease 12%' at the landfill boundaries.
- May be exposed to radioactive toxins from the excavation at the proposed site.
Please help us stop this project from making our community a much less desirable place to live!
