Fireplace Safety
We recommend that unit owners with fireplaces have an annual chimney inspection and cleaning, especially if you use your fireplace on a regular basis. If you notice an odor when operating your fireplace, and/or you notice a yellow deposit around your fireplace, have the flue in your fireplace checked immediately by a professional. Proper care and attention to service helps to protect against unnecessary fires and carbon monoxide poisoning. Smoke Detectors
Smoke alarms will wear out over time. Ten years is the recommended replacement time. If you decide to install a new smoke alarm, it is a good idea to write the installation date on the inside of your alarm so you will know when to replace it.
Check Your Furnace
It is also very important that you have your furnace checked and the filters cleaned/replaced regularly. As a general rule of thumb, it is recommended that unit owners have their furnaces/HVAC systems inspected on an annual basis. Annual inspection and service will prolong the life of your heating system, save energy, and decrease health risks.
